Prepared, Not Paranoid: Why We Built Blk Urban Homestead

Hey fam,

We’re Jasmine & Marseille  two women apartment-living in the heart of the city, learning how to prep, preserve, and protect what matters most.

Welcome to Blk Urban Homestead.

This space was born from more than just a need for gear or gadgets. It was born from love. From worry. From watching the world shift in ways that often leave folks like us — Black women, urban, and unseen  out of the conversation when it comes to preparedness.

We grew tired of looking for resources and only seeing one type of prepper: usually rural, usually male, and rarely anyone who looked like us or lived like us. But the truth is, most of us don’t have land. We don’t have acres or livestock. Not yet.

If we could buy land and build a community right now, we would. But that’s not our current reality. So we’re starting where we are  in an apartment, in the middle of the city, turning a balcony into a garden and a closet into a prep station. And we know we’re not alone.

Blk Urban Homestead is our answer.

It’s a shop, a guide, and a gathering space  built for people who want to be ready for anything, even if they don’t fit the stereotype of what a “prepper” looks like. We’re curating gear, ideas, cookbooks, gardening hacks, solar tools, and culturally relevant survival goods  all with our people in mind.

“Homestead Where You Are.”
Because prepping isn’t just for the countryside. It’s for the crib, the apartment, the block. It’s for us.

We created this space not because we have it all figured out, but because we don’t. This is how we stay accountable. This is how we learn  by doing. And we want you to watch us figure it out and know that you can do it too.

If you’ve been homesteading where you are, or you have tips, tricks, or creative solutions that work in a small space, we would love to hear from you. Whether you're just getting started or you’ve been growing food on a balcony and storing supplies in your closet, this space was created for you.
